We’ve made it to half a year! It’s amazing to think that you’re already 6 months (26 weeks) old! When I look at photos of you your first week and then look at you now, I can’t believe that you’re the same baby girl.
Your 6 Months Stats:
Length: 27.25″ (93rd percentile)
Weight: 16 lbs 4 oz (52nd percentile)
Head circumference: 42.5 cm (58th percentile)
You’re growing so much in so many different ways every day. You’ve really started watch and appreciate the animals. You’ll reach out to LaMesa for pets and then giggle when she starts to lick your hands and toes. When she and Dally start to play, you watch the excitement and have even started really laughing at them. You like to reach for the cats, too. We’ll have to keep an eye on you, as you’re grabbing and pulling a little on their fur, and while our puppies and kitties have been pretty good about it, you never want to test them.
You love to eat! We’ve been feeding you for about a month now, now eating three times a day, like your momma. We’ve been doing oatmeal with prunes in the morning, then something for lunch and dinner. For the most part, mommy’s been making your food, trying to keep some things chunky to help you start to learn to chew already. Grammie even made you homemade applesauce, which you liked better than the Gerber apples.
Foods you love: sweet potatoes, peas, butternut squash, pears, peaches, prunes, applesauce
Foods you don’t love: beets, green beans (but if I mix them with the food you love, you’ll eat them right up), plain oatmeal
I really want to do baby-led weaning, which allows you to pick up small chunks of food yourself and feed yourself, but we don’t have a high chair at the moment. I’m looking forward to discussion things with your pediatrician at your 6-month appointment later this week to make sure I’m doing everything alright.
We finished Water Babies at Stony Creek Swim Center last week. It was sad to find out that that was your last class, but you’re now moved up to Little Swimmers 1 and we’ll hopefully be starting that class soon. You just love swimming. Even on your worst days (total grouch face), you totally change when we get to the pool and you smile and laugh the entire time. We had started dunking you under water, and learning to push off the wall, and you’ve been doing great. You also loved when you floated in the shark floaties for more tummy time.
We took you to your first county fair, where you got to meet cows, goats, rabbits, sheep, and pigs for the first time. You weren’t sure what to think about the pigs and the cows, but you were a trooper in the heat. We’ve also gone to the farmers’ market a couple of times, and you just hang out the whole time.
The past week or so, you’ve really started teething, even to the point of waking up screaming sometimes. It breaks your momma’s heart to see you hurting like that, but you’ve been as good as can be about it all. We got you some more teething toys, like your “Chew-Dog” and Chew Beads for your pacifier and you really like those. Teething is not fun!
Daddy’s been gone a lot lately, but when he’s home he pours so much love over you! And so does momma. I’ve enjoyed these couple of months of being a stay-at-home-working-mom because I’ve gotten to see you grow and change so much. You’re sitting up on your own now, and while you haven’t rolled over much, I’m realizing that’s OK–you’re still pretty strong and loving life.
I can’t believe we’re on the downward slope to your 1 year. Can time slow down a little?
Love you, baby girl!
